Reunion Highlights

The 2001 Reunion was executed with great success.  Of the 10 children of John and Mary Smiley, 1 is still with us, Boone Smiley.  Uncle Boon and Aunt Era graced us with their presence once again in our reunion.  Of the 24 members of the next generation, 16 are still with us, and 11 made it to the reunion.  Way to go, cuz...

Of course, it has to go on record that the Greene's brought the most family with 18 total Greene's with us that weekend.  The Barnett's were a second close with 16.

In the words of Carl Greene, I could not have expressed it myself better:

Dear Smiley Family members,

WASN'T IT A GREAT REUNION?

It was so good seeing so many relatives in Dallas.  I think we all had a great time and really enjoyed visiting each other and especially visiting
with Uncle Boone and Aunt Era.  They are so dear to all of us and that is why so many show up at our reunions to honor them.

For those of you that were unable to attend for one reason or another we really missed you and hope that you will be able to attend the next one.  It
seems like everyone that attended the reunion wants to have another one in year 2003 and at the same location.  The Embassy Suites is a great place to have a reunion and the one we met at is so close to DFW Airport and is excellent for those flying in.

To all those that attended I want to thank each one of you for coming.  We had a total of 69 at the banquet.  States represented were -  TX - 34,  CA.- 22, OK.-4, GA.-3,  AR.- 4 and KY.- 2..    Number representing Smiley family heads were:
                  Beza Smiley                   6
                  Sally Smiley Barnett      16
                  Henry Smiley                  2
                  Edna Smiley Ellis          14
                  Lucy Smiley Howell       18
                  Boone Smiley               13

We had several that live in the Dallas area stop by for a short visit, but could not stay for the banquet, and we really appreciate them stopping by as
it was good to see them too.

Thanks again to all of you for attending.  IT WAS JUST GREAT.

MERLE AND CARL GREENE
